The Homestead

According to Merriam-Webster, a homestead can refer to the home and adjoining land occupied by a family, an ancestral home, or a tract of land acquired from public lands by living on and cultivating it.

I spent a lot of my childhood barefoot, picking tomatoes, stealing concord grapes off the vine, feeding my grandfather's German Shepherd and the never ending chore of shelling peas into a bucket. I witnessed my mother always rolling out a fresh pie crust for dessert and  was allowed to participate in the June tradition of making strawberry jam.

I have always felt a strong bond and desire to connect to my ancestors. What was believed as a "simpler" time. Less technology, home cooked meals, herbs freshly picked, when things appeared to be less complicated.

Our homestead has begun with the intention to go back to our roots and honor the traditions before us. We focus on fresh cut flowers, herbs, salves and a lot of sweet treats from our kitchen.
